Trains, trains and then more trains!
This week I did quite abit of solo travelling…
It all started with a lovely breakfast in Lichfield with Ben – he has just gotten back from Leicester and we talked about his training course, how things were going, how we were going to manage this new change and challenge together, a productive day. I then made us dinner; probably one of my favourites we’ve picked from the variety on the M&S Dine in for £10.
On Sunday, we had another lush sunrise. November skies are so beautiful!
I travelled into Birmingham to meet a friend from London for a overdue catch up; with both of us having major bowel surgeries this year, it had been a while. I somehow didn’t realise my Nandos card had a free meal on it, so free lunch for me: WINNER! We then chatted more in Starbucks; Birmingham was beyond busy with the German Christmas market and being Black Friday weekend; never again.
I then travelled to Ben’s for dinner together. Trying to find time to spend with each other when he only has 48 hours at home is proving challenging; we live apart at the moment so travelling is a big bit of it but figuring out what to do and where is also part of it. But I’m sure as time goes on, we’ll figure it out.
Monday I spent my day at home working on the blog. I had quite abit of maintance I need to get done by the end of the year -I mean it doesn’t need to be done by then but setting mself that deadline has helped me get motivated enough to do it and stick to doing it. It will be worth it, I tell myself!
I posted a huge post about “What I’ve Learnt after Three Months with an Ileostomy” which you can read here. The response has been so great!
Tuesday I travelled to Peterborough for a ‘business meeting’. I was put up in a lovely hotel, ordered myself some room service and basically spent some quality alone time with myself. It was much needed – weekends with the boyfriend, weekdays with the family; I just needed to get away, be in unfamiliar but comfortable surrounding and assess things. I think it helped and despite being unable to sleep much, I had a lovely stay at the Marriott.
Wednesday was my meeting and I was at Coloplast HQ meeting the staff for talks about the new products they have in their ostomy range. I will be writing more on the subject before Christmas, so keep your eyes peeled for that! I had such a wonderful day being geeky about ostomy supplies, my own ostomy and sharing my story with the people who work there. I came away on such a high, but my crappy travel home really put a dampener on it. But again, please keep an eye out for my adventures at Coloplast HQ, coming soon!
On Thursday I had my eyes tested; so so so overdue. I’ve been needing to get them done for a while and for good reason; my eye sight has deteriated and I need new specs. Yay for being able to choose some new pairs but boo because I actually need them, I can’t ignore it and wait until next time. Ben came home that evening – hes on a long weekend, woohoo! – so he spent the night and we had a cheeky McDonalds. My stoma did not like this at 4am and decided to wake up and I didn’t get back to sleep. Added to how lousy I’d be feeling due to so much travelling, I was super duper tired by this point.
Friday we had a late breakfast because I was due at my dentist for 12noon for my filling to be done. That went off without a hitch – if anything, it was the most painless thing I’ve had done this year, and considering what I’ve had done, thank goodness! Unless I’m just numb from it all.. – and then we got new library books! Much excitement for new reading material.
We then went to see my stoma nurse – I was due a check up – and a good job! I’ve been having a bad patch of peristomal rash and I needed a solution. Thankfully she had some and we wait to see if they improve my skin around my stoma. I do hope its soon, I need to place a new ostomy supply order with my delivery company and the deadline is next week for gurantteed Christmas delivery. Fingers crossed!
Until next week,
